Teach Time Using Cardboard Clocks for Kids

With many clocks and watches showing digital time, many children struggle with telling time on an analog clock. It’s important to know how to tell time on both types of clocks, and cardboard clocks for kids are the perfect way to teach a group of children how to tell time.

Cardboard clocks are ideal for the classroom because the price and size means you can purchase one for every student. While some teachers like having one big analog clock for the classroom, providing individual clocks allows students to practice on their own time instead of having to share with other students.

Let Students Individualise the Clocks

One way to get students interested in learning how to tell time is to let them personalise their own clocks. You should set up some rules before students decorate their clock faces. The clocks need to look cute but be functional at the same time. One idea is to have time storytelling. This involves creating a story that showcases different times. Students change the time on the clock as the time changes in the story.

For example, a story may have a little girl who wakes up at 6:00, eats breakfast at 8:15, goes to the park at 11:22, and so forth. Students change the time as they tell the story, reinforcing important math skills. You can have time races where each child has his or her clock on their desk and you call out a time. The first child to get the time holds their clock up in the air. Children can also work in groups quizzing each other, using flashcards, and making up time stories.

No matter how you choose to utilise the cardboard clocks for kids, integrating them into math lessons helps make math fun and engaging. Studies show that when students learn math using games and activities the skills are easier to remember.
