Scrapbooking For Children – Keep it Fun and Safe

When you get your kids into scrapbooking, just like many other hobbies it benefits both them and yourself. For you, it avoids you worrying about what they are up to, and for them, it stimulates their creative mind and keeps them out of trouble. You can have them sit and stay in their room and they can enjoy it.

There are a few precautions you can and should take to ensure the safety of your child. Ensure that the medium they are using (marks, paint or water colors, crayons, color pencils etc.) are non-toxic. This obviously depends on the age of your child.

Glitters can be quite a mess as well so if your child is not keeping it neat, try to buy them glitter glues rather than packs of glitters wheree if dropped or a strong wind blows, you'll have to spend your whole afternoon vacuuming! Do not forget to leave an empty plastic bag or rubbish bin next to your child and instruct them on throwing the waste from paper clippings in there.

Stickers can help in keeping your child interested. Buy stickers and ink stamps on things your child loves. From cars to cartoon characters and have them stick it in their scrapbooks.

You can also encourage your child to collect simple things for scrapbooking ; stamps, certain magazines for clippings, candy wrappers and even wooden ice cream sticks.

More importantly, ensure that the scissors your child uses is safe for them to use! Pay attention to the size and sharpness of the scissors you buy. It should be sharp enough to cut paper but not sharp enough to cut a finger! Also, the paper that you buy for your child's scrapbooking should be those that are simple enough to cut. If you feel you can not trust your child with a certain tools eg cutters or preferably anything with a blade.

Cat Carriers – A Safe Way to Travel

Cat Carriers – A Safe Way to Travel

One item that is a must have for your cat is a cat carrier. Your cat will have appointments to keep and will be safe when traveling in his carrier. This will come in handy many times over through the life of your cat, but this is especially true for visits to the vet. A cat can be skittish, especially with other animals around, and you do not want to be scratched and clawed up because you did not have a cat carrier.

Just looking on the internet shows a wide variety of pet carriers. You can buy purse style, pouches, backpack types, soft-sided carriers, hard-sided, and even hounds-tooth varieties. It is probably best to look for one that is ultra light so as not to make it too heavy for carrying around easily. This is very important if your cat is a little on the hefty side.

If your cat does not want to go in his cat carrier it could prove difficult to make him. The simple way to do this is tip the carrier with the door opening facing the ceiling. Grab your cat gently using two hands, I would have one hand around the legs to avoid scratches if they kick out, and gently lower then into the carrier feet first. Close the door fast before he gets back out and make sure the lock is closed tightly and securely.

By using a cat carrier you will be keeping your cat as safe as possible while traveling, while protecting yourself from bites and scratches too.

How to Keep Your Gadgets Safe While on an Adventure Trip

How to Keep Your Gadgets Safe While on an Adventure Trip

Taking an adventure trip can be amazing fun, full of excitement and adrenaline. The challenge is keeping your gadgets safe during this trip. There are so many ways in which your gadgets could be compromised – pickpockets, you drop it in a river, canyon, from a moving vehicle, and so on.

You could just leave without any of your gadgets and go completely off grid, but that may not be such a good idea, especially if you’re going on an adventure trip. These gadgets help you find hotels at short notice, making sense of the local public transportation system, translating languages to help you communicate better, money transfers, GPS, etc.

So, how do you ensure that these handy little devices are protected during your adventures? Here are a few tips to help you out.

Get Some Gadget Travel Insurance

Before you do anything else, get all your gadgets insured. Most good travel insurance policies will offer gadget travel insurance which will cover your gadgets. When you’re on adventure trips, there are chances that your gadgets could be lost, stolen or damaged. However, if they are insured, it will take just a few days to have them replaced.

Do NOT Have too Many Gadgets

If you carry fewer gadgets, there are also fewer chances of damage, loss or theft. Having too many gadgets attracts attention, which means that there is a higher chance that your expensive devices could get stolen. It is also easier to lose track of them when you have too many gadgets. The best thing you can do is just keep one or two gadgets with you on your trip; usually a smartphone and a camera are enough.

Use a Simple Over-the-Shoulder Bag to Store Your Gadgets

If you are carrying a fancy bag in which you have put your gadgets, you are inviting trouble. Instead, get a non-descript over-the-shoulder bag that you can clutch in front of you in a crowded area. You can even invest in one of those anti-theft bags that are available in the market today.

Change Your Camera Strap

Nothing invites more unwelcome attention than a camera strap that advertises the brand of your camera. Change your camera strap to something low-key and non-descript, so that even if the strap hangs out of your bag, no one will pay attention to it.

Make Use of the Hotel Safe

Most hotels provide a safe in their guest rooms. So use it. Your insurance company will not cover thefts from hotel rooms if the gadgets were not kept in a safe. And if you’re going to be out the entire day participating in an adventure activity, then you don’t want to be encumbered with too much baggage.

These ideas may sound like overkill, but remember those devices you have can cost a pretty penny when you add it all up. And don’t forget, all people are not evil, you can get lucky and find a Good Samaritan who will locate your lost or stolen gadgets and return them to you.

Keeping Family Pets Safe From Wildlife

Keeping Family Pets Safe From Wildlife

Raccoons, opossums, mice, bats, and birds can all be adorable and fun to watch, but some people just don’t understand the potential dangers that these forms of wildlife can pose to their family and pets. An encounter with even a small and seemingly harmless wild animal that finds their way onto your property can result in serious consequences for you, your children and your luxury dogs and cats.

Wild mammals and birds can damage your property, upset trash receptacles and set up nests in your yard, in your shed or even in accessible areas of your home. Certain forms of wildlife carry fleas, lice and ticks and can bring the threat of potentially deadly diseases like rabies.

Simple Steps to Protect Your Family and Pets

Even if you live in an area where wildlife sightings are very common, it doesn’t necessarily mean that there needs to be an imminent danger to your kids, dogs, and cats. In fact, there are some very simple steps that you can take to minimize the potential risk of an unwanted wildlife encounter:

Keep Trash Bins Securely Covered

Squirrels, rats, raccoons, opossums and wild cats all love to rummage through the garbage that contains scraps of food. By keeping trash in tightly tied bags and in cans with secure lids, you eliminate a major source of attraction for wildlife.

Make sure your Fence is in Good Condition

Fixing holes or replacing missing planks in the fence around your property keeps rabbits, raccoons, and many other mammals off of your property. A secure boundary really minimizes the chances for a potentially dangerous encounter between a wild animal and your pets or children.

Don’t leave Pets Outside Unattended

Even with a solid fence, some animals will still find their way into your yard. If your dogs are out roaming for extended periods they have a greater chance of coming across a wild animal that has made its way onto your property. If the animal has a nest or a food source nearby they may become aggressive and look to protect instead of escape. This can result in serious injury to both your pet and the wild animal.

Keep Cats Indoors

Cats are natural hunters and are not necessarily deterred by your fence. If there is a bird or rabbit in a neighbor’s yard, they will likely give chase. A cat who exits the confines of your property is at a much greater risk of injury due to a wild animal attack, but to other dangers (like traffic, poison or traps left out by others for wild animals, etc.)

Ultrasonic Pest Protection

Ultrasonic pest repellents use high-frequency sound waves to drive away a variety of pests, rodents, and insects. For homeowners who are looking for a hands off and mess free method of keeping unwanted pests out of their home, this can be a safe and effective solution.

Ultrasonic repellents are safe for humans and family pets (you can’t hear the sounds, neither can your pets, there are no poisons and no danger of pets or kids suffering the injuries that can occur from snap traps). After the fast and easy initial setup, there is nothing to do but allow the device to work driving away unwanted pests.

In addition to the steps above, simply avoiding contact with wildlife is also a major factor in keeping pets and family members safe. Don’t leave food out for wild animals, don’t intentionally engage with them and never encourage your pets to interact with wildlife.

Even those with the best of intentions and those who have taken the proactive measures mentioned above can still find themselves in a position where a wild animal has entered their home or garage and is posing a potential threat. In these instances, it is important that the situation is handled properly to minimize the risk.

It’s never a good idea to attempt to poison a wild animal on your property. Poison baits have elements that attract wildlife (they look and smell like food), which may also attract your family pets.

Cornering a wild animal is also not advisable. Raccoons, opossums, and birds can all become very territorial, especially if they have a nest nearby. Cornering them can insight an attack, which can result in serious injury for any people or pets in the area.

If a wild animal has set up residence in your home, garage or yard or is posing a threat to your family it makes sense to enlist the help of a professional. A wildlife control expert can quickly analyze the wildlife threat on your property and take the best steps toward removal in a manner that ensures the safety of your family and your pets and with minimal risk to the wild animal.

A trained wildlife control expert can also suggest the best methods for cleaning and sanitize the area after removal and help set up protective measures to minimize the chances of future unwanted encounters.

Keep Your Precious Puppy Safe With a Canine Seat Belt

Dog safety and canine seat belts have taken a new turn when discussions reached the legislative branch of the many state governments. It leads one to wonder, is this all-political mumbo jumbo or is there something behind all this political maneuvering? Are politicians trying to look family friendly or does dogs really need to be restrained?

Driver Distraction

The National Highway Traffic Administration reports that 20 to 30 percent of all motor vehicle crashes are due to driver distraction. AA & A did a similar study on driver distraction. They found that radio was the number one driver distraction followed by children and pets.

These studies lead you to believe that canine restraints may have some merit in preventing automobile accidents. Whether legislation is necessary, to require such action is yet to be seen. However, if these reports are accurate, then more studies should be done to see if canine restraint would prevent accident. Only time will tell though, it does look promising.

Protect Passengers from Injury

Statistically, when traveling 30 miles per hour a 30-pound dog will exert about 900 pounds of force in an accident. Since the majority of accidents do occur within a 10-mile radius of the home, it would not be unusual for a dog to be in the car going 30 miles an hour unrestrained as most residential streets have 30-mile speed limits.

While no studies have been done on how many people have been injured by dogs, there should be. The potential for injury here is obvious. Even when you think about a tiny dog weighing 15 pounds in a school zone, the dog could fly through the windshield with a force of 300 pounds of force. That tiny dog could seriously injure a child and we have all seen dogs in cars as we have picked up our children from school.

Protect the Pet

Of all the reasons I have seen stated for enabling a canine seat belt, this has the most merit. This is the only reason that has undeniable proof. There is no doubt that when you put your dog in a canine seat belt, you are protecting your dog from injury in a car accident. The seat belt works in the same fashion that buckling yourself or your children works.

However, the seatbelt works in one additional way as well. In addition to protecting your dog during the accident, it protects your dog after the accident. The canine seat belts will prevent the dog from running off after the accident. It will also keep the dog restrained until animal services can get there to take care of the dog. You, your family, and emergency services do not need to worry about a dog running around scared during an accident. It is best that the dog remain restrained until it can be taken care of properly.

Parents: 4 Apps That May Keep A Child Safe Online

Parents: 4 Apps That May Keep A Child Safe Online

Parental-control apps for smartphones can help kids understand the concept of limits that should not be crossed, for their safety, in this digital world. That is, these security apps could help educate and prevent children from taking certain actions and accessing improper contents, such as texting with strangers or viewing adult contents, respectively, while at the same time, respecting their privacy. If a parent intends to monitor a child / children's device for harmful activities in this modern age, then a parental control application that works well on mobile platforms, in addition to the desktop is needed. This post will discuss 4 of these apps that could help every parent keep their kids safe online from the dangers of society. But first, in general, what do these apps combine?

The best parental control apps offer ways to limit time spent on a device, filter for harmful words, image and videos, monitor online behavior, protect kids privacy, track usage and location, and block other apps or games as necessary. So without further waste of time, let's take a look at the following 4 apps, which offer these features, every parent should consider:

Qustodio is user-friendly, efficient, and excellent for busy parents. The dashboard shows a child's recent mobile activity for any connected device, including time spent on specific websites like Instagram or Twitter. The dashboard also offers options to set time limits spent on a website, track texts, filter out racy sites, and set time limits for any game or app. It's reliably not invasive, but still effective – a great control app to use when managing devices for kids of multiple ages. It also works on Kindle, if one is interested in protecting kids on Amazon devices.

Norton Family Premier
Norton Family Premier packs just about any feature a parent could ask for into its mobile-device-management service, giving a parent control over multiple features on multiple devices. A parent may not be able to monitor every aspect of how kids use their Android phones, but with the web-filtering, app-monitoring, and location-tracking features, parents are sure to have enough control to remind kids to responsibly use their mobile devices.

The Norton app, just like Qustodio app, can help parents monitor multiple devices and multiple children. It's easy to set up age-specific profiles on the Norton Family Premier, and even easier to port them across multiple devices.

SafeToNet is a cyber safety company that safeguards children from bullying, sex extortion, and abuse on social networks. It is also a messaging app. The SafeToNetapp is built on an AI environment that can textualize the messages that kids receive, figure out what's harmful, and filter it before the damage is done. It's a deep tech, a multi-faceted solution that goes way beyond AI behavioral analytics. It analyzes changes in child's behavior and notifies parents of any suspicious change.

"SafeToNet's award-winning software safeguards children and youngsters from online risk such bullying, sex extortion, abuse, and aggression. It protects kids from making mistakes andvents harmful messages from being sent to social networks and messaging apps." ~ SafeToNet

SafeToNet's systems are fully automated and do not require human interventions to review content. Parents never get to see what their kid (s) sends and receives. This means that a kid's right to data privacy are fully maintained and respected.

Once the SafeToNet app is installed on a child's device, and linked with their parents' SafeToNet account, the software scans for any image image on the child's device (s). If such an image is found, it will quarantine it, and blur the image so it no longer presents a sharing risk.

Bark, a mobile safety app for kid online, created by a startup founded by Twitter alumni, is hoping to blaze a new trail in a child's online safety. The software employs machine learning to detect signs of negative behavior on a teen's phone, including cyberbullying, sexting, depression, and suicidal thoghts and informs parents and school administrator of such threat.

The machine learning algorithm does all the work, operating in the background mining for red flags. It also works with most social platforms, such as Snapchat, Facebook, Twitter, Gmail, YouTube, and kik, among others.

Bark, unlike the traditional "parental control" software or net nanny-type watchdog applications, strikes the right balance between respecting a child's right to privacy and protecting them from online predators and cyberbullying, while also looking out for issues like sexting or mental health concerns . And in that regards, it has been stated to have the potential of alleviating school shootings.

The Bark app does not give parents or school administrator full access to their child / children's social activity, but it monitors for potential issues and identifies language that may be of concern. Codes like "CD9" or "9" – which stands for "parents are nearby," or "53X" for "sex" are examples of what the software tags in its search.

Any of these 4 apps can be effective at providing online security for kids, but it is, however, recommended that every parent use at least 2 of these apps for a more effective protection of their child / children when they are online.

Buying a Safe For Securing Your Valuables

Buying a Safe For Securing Your Valuables

Buying a safe is a really good choice for those who own goods that are easily transportable, like jewelry, a collection of coins, furs luxury or digital camcorders, as they are easy to take for thieves. Experienced thieves know where to look to find these objects, so it's a safe bet to say that your favorite hiding place might not be as safe as you think. A bank safe is certainly the most secure place where you can put your valuables, but they tend to be too small and are only capable of containing small objects.

Personal safes are another option. Before buying a safe, make sure you understand the different levels of protection. In Europe the standard used is the European standard anti-theft EN 1143-1. This standard determinates the resistance of a safe from the fire, and the amount normally covered by insurance in case of theft or damage:

– Class 0: Insurance 8 000 EUR
– Class 1: Insurance of 25 000 EUR
– Class 2: Insurance of 35 000 EUR
– Class 3: Insurance 55 000 EUR
– Class 4: Insurance 110 000 EUR
– Class 5: Insurance 200 000 EUR
– Class 6: Insurance 300 000 EUR

The higher a class is and the more the walls and the system locks are secure. These amounts for reimbursements of insurance depends on your contract and are indicative.

Typically, the class 1 to 3 are sufficient to effectively protect irreplaceable documents. There are very specialized safes to protect digital storage media or computer hard drives. A good safe will also protect against the collapse of a building.

Safes are usually firmly attached to the structure of your house. They are typically a lot smaller than conventional safes, but they are also a lot more expensive. Because they are small, they can potentially be dropped from a thin wall and removed by a thief so that he can force him later. Therefore, if you are considering buying a safe mounting, you should take one that can be secured by embedding in a wall or a floor of masonry.

Safes combination, which are often shown on television, are popular choices. These safes are made in two parts: a sturdy safe jewel within an equally strong fireproof safe. They have a thick metal door and walls of the same ilk, with a combination lock. They can be locked to the ground or embedded, to be sure that a thief can not prevail.

Pedal Toys and Safety – 7 Things Every Parent Must Do to Keep Your Child Safe

Pedal Toys and Safety – 7 Things Every Parent Must Do to Keep Your Child Safe

It's that time of year again. The weather is getting warmer and the kids are moving outdoors to play. They've been cooped up inside all winter and can not wait to take their playtime outside.

One sure sign of spring is when the parents start dragging the bikes, tricycles and pedal toys out of the garage. It's a kick to see all the kids out peddling around and meeting up on the sidewalks and street corners on their various vehicles, but it's also a time for parents to remember to use common sense and keep their kids safe.

Obviously you can not expect every situation that could cause an accident and injury to your child while they're riding around the block on their pedal toys, but here are 7 common sense safety tips every parent must do to create a safe and enjoyable riding experience for their kids.

Many of these may seem obvious and obvious, but most accidents involving children would never have occurred if parents had just slowed down a little and taken the time to remind them of these important safety tips. We all get in a hurry and distracted once in a while. It just takes a few extra minutes to slow ourselves down long enough put these must do pedal toy safety rules into action.

1) Never leave your children unattended while they are riding the pedal toys.

2) Children should always wear shoes when they are riding pedal toys of any kind. There are just way too many ways for kids to hurt and mangle their feet if they're bare when they're riding these kids vehicles.

3) In addition to wearing shoes, parents need to double check that any shoes with laces are securely tied and knotted. Lose and untied shoelaces that can get used in pedals, wheels, and spokes resulting in accidents. The same thing applies to lose clothing. Make sure that
your children are not wearing anything that could get cooked in the pedals.

4) Ride on toys and pedal toys should not be ridden (used) on hills or any kind of incline, or in thoroughfares. Additionally, children should not be riding these vehicles near or around swimming pools or lakes.

5) Insist that your children wear helmets while riding their bicycles, tricycles and any other pedal toys. Kids hate these things. "They're nerdy" … "they're dumb" … "they're weird" … "they hurt" … "they're uncomfortable" … all great resistance responses youll get from the kiddos to get you to give in and let them go without the helmets. Do not relent and give into your kids on this one. Mad children are much better than injured children. They'll get over it!

6) Single use only. Doubling up more than one child on any kids ride on toy that's meant for single use can be very dangerous. Yes, it's fun to pedal around with your friends on your handlebars and seats. There's lots of giggles and laughs for the kids, until the time comes that someone gets hurt.

7) Every three months or so, parents need to inspect the pedals, steering wheels, wheels, handles, etc. of their child's vehicle to make sure nothing is loose or out of alignment.
