Life With Pets, Pet Portraits

Everyone has photos of their pets after all they become part of the family to the point of taking on the role of a child.

We start going on shopping sprees for “basic items” and usually get to the counter and when the total amount comes up, the blood drains from our faces and its one of those “Oops I overspent” then we tell ourselves that he or she’s worth it.

We love our pets and they give us unconditional love and affection, They don’t care about if we’re unemployed or a CEO of a company, live on the streets or a million dollar mansion, gay or straight, what colour our skin is or how crap our day went.

Unlike photos that can fade, be blurred or something else in the photo can distract the person looking at our pet, a pet portrait will be only focused on your pet. It can be so realistic that you can feel the fur and especially in portraits of cats the eyes will follow the person around the room.

In the case of when the pet dies which is heartbreaking a portrait of the pet that you have just lost can be a memento of how your pet was, the strange but unique way he or she looked, the way the fur lay that strange way and would never sit the way you wanted it to.

It a personal way of remembering your pet and will bring back memories and emotions and through the emotions you learn how to smile again.

We all buy art of some description, it brightens up our walls, gives our homes a unique, personal individual touch that says to visitors what inspires us, what kind of person we are, our likes and dislikes.

How many homes have we gone into and looked around their pictures and photos on their walls and tables. Its a conversation starting point and an insight into other peoples lives.

If we have portraits our our kids and our pets that we adore are like our kids then why don’t we have portrait of our pets after all they are like our kids and part of the family and at times we would get rid of our partners before we would get rid of our pet.

Five Reasons You Should Consider Wearing Bamboo Socks

Out of all the different types of apparel being made from bamboo these days, bamboo socks seem, by far, the most sensible. After all, bamboo absorbs dampness beautifully, feels soft and silky to the skin without sticking, repels odors, and has antibacterial properties. What more could you possibly ask for in a sock?

It makes little sense to me why clothing manufacturers took so long to start using bamboo in apparel, especially socks. Just think of all the research involved in finding fabric blends worthy of serving as highly absorbent materials for socks, shoes, sweatshirts, and other athletic wear. Since bamboo naturally has those coveted qualities, we should definitely be seeing more products made with it.

There are so many advantages to wearing bamboo socks that it’s difficult to discuss all of them in one article. I have narrowed my list down to the five best reasons to consider wearing bamboo socks.

1) Bamboo Socks Keep Your Feet Dry

Because bamboo fibers are dotted with thousands of little cavities, they provide superior moisture absorbing qualities, ventilation, and warmth when used in the manufacture of socks. Socks made with these fibers keep your feet cool in the summer, warm in the winter, and dry year round.

2) Socks Made with Bamboo Keep Your Feet Fresh and Healthy

Bamboo has antibacterial and antifungal properties by way of a substance called Bamboo Kun. It repels pests and insects, which is why bamboo can be grown without the use of pesticides. Since bamboo socks have these same properties, they fight germs and foot odors, keeping your feet smelling and feeling fresh. Both the antibacterial and the antifungal qualities will also contribute to healthier feet combating skin disorders such as athlete’s foot. Healthier and happier feet will be yours when wearing these unique socks.

3) Bamboo Socks are Beneficial to the Environment

Since bamboo fibers are completely biodegradable, you won’t ever have to worry about your bamboo socks polluting the environment. Bamboo is a completely natural substance that is sustainable without assistance from people. It grows faster than any other plant and even regrows after it undergoes harvest. It contributes to better soil stability and thrives in places other plants can’t grow. It even has the ability to thrive when given only rainwater.

4) Socks Fabricated with Bamboo Feel Baby Soft to Your Feet

Because bamboo fibers have round surfaces, they are ultra smooth and feel great against your skin. The uniquely formed fibers create a silky soft fabric similar to cashmere that makes for baby soft, comfortable socks.

5) Bamboo Socks Are Non-allergenic

Socks made with bamboo fibers are naturally non-allergenic. These socks will never irritate your skin the way man-made fabrics can. If you have skin allergies, dermatitis, or any other skin sensitivities, you won’t experience them when wearing bamboo socks. They are assets for people who exhibit these types of skin disorders.

The numerous advantages to wearing bamboo socks seem endless. Although I’ll never understand why it took so long for them to become popular, I’m happy they did. When you stop and think about it, their timing is actually perfect when you consider that we, as a nation, are now trying to move towards a more natural, healthier existence.

It's Time to Replace the Bulbs of Your License Plate With LED?

Most of the modern world vehicles come along with LED license plate lights. If you have an older car or a car that does not have it, it is the high time to think about getting a one. It can deliver a variety of benefits to you in the long run. As you already know, LED lights are extremely efficient when compared to traditional lights. That's mainly because traditional lights emit both heat as well as light. It will not be the case for LEDs and you will be able to experience maximum efficiency. Just grab some LED lights for about 10 minutes and see whether you can feel any heat. You will notice a huge difference when you keep the lights on for 10 minutes and touch it with your hand.

The LED lights are coming into fashion as well. From various studies, it has been identified that LEDs have the ability to last longer when compared to traditional bulbs. Therefore, you will not have to think about changing the bulb of your license plate. They are extremely reliable and you can simply forget about checking whether they work or not.

You will be able to experience all those benefits by simply purchasing a LED car license plate bulb. It comes as a pair, so you will be able to replace both front as well as rear it. It requires a 12V input and you can simply give the same input that is being used to light up the existing bulb. The dimensions of this LED bulb measure 12 x 17 by millimeters. Therefore, you will not face any issues when placing it near your license plate. In fact, it is extremely easy to install this bulb and you just need to screw it and solder up the wire. These bulbs are waterproof and you will not even have to consider about it. On the other hand, they come along with universal screws, which are being used on all the plates. A cable is also provided along with the package, which is about 80cm in length.

Once you purchase these LED lights, you will have to set them up so that they turn on automatically once the tail lights are meant to be switched on. A user manual is provided along with the package, which tells you how to do it. Therefore, you will not have to seek any professional assistance in order to get these activated. All the steps are mentioned step by step and you just need to follow them. As a result, you will not have to think about placing another switch in order to turn them on whenever you want. Therefore, all the vehicle owners in the modern world can think about getting and installing these LED bulbs without any doubt in mind.

Boxer Puppy And Dog Information

The boxer makes a great family pet. She can be raised in an apartment as long as she gets frequent exercise. She would prefer to actually live in the home as she is a people dog. A properly fenced enclosure would be perfect for this high energy dog. She is loving and intelligent and makes a good watch dog and guard dog. She is very good with children. As a reminder, never leave young children unsupervised with a puppy or dog.

Approximate Adult Size

The approximate adult size (two years old or older) of the male boxer is 22 to 25 inches to the withers (top point of the shoulder) and 60 to 70 pounds. The female ranges from 21 to 24 inches to the withers and 53 to 65 pounds.

Special Health Considerations

Most dog breeds have certain inherited health problems associated with that specific breed and the Boxer is no exception. Be on the lookout for skin tumors, heart murmurs, digestive problems, hypothyroidism (sluggish thyroid gland which can result in weight gain), progressive axonopathy (debilitating disease of the nervous system, becoming rare), canine hip dysplasia (genetic based looseness in the hip joint that can lead to arthritis pain and lameness) and cornea ulcers. White boxers can be deaf. This disease list is an informative guideline only. Other diseases may also be significant threats, please contact your veterinarian for a complete list.

She should visit the veterinarian several times in the first year for shots, boosters and check up. Then, as an adult, she should visit the veterinarian year for shots and check up. As she gets older, six years and on, she should visit the veterinarian twice a year for check ups and shots. Remember; avoid feeding your dog sweets.

Grooming

The Boxer has a short smooth and glossy coat. She should be brushed once as brushing will help her maintain a clean and healthy coat and also help you keep a close eye on her health and strengthen your emotional bond with your pet.

Her teeth should be brushed at least twice a week with toothpaste and toothbrush designed for dogs. Brushing removes the accumulation of plaque and tartar which can cause cavities (rarely) and periodontal disease. Dog periodontal disease can lead to pain, loss of teeth, bad breath and other serious disease.

Her toenails may need to be examined for growth and clipped regularly. The toenails of the rear feet grow slower than the toenails of the front feet. Generally a guillotine type trimmer is the best for this chore and competent instructions to accomplish this can be found on the net.

Life Span

The Boxer can live between 10 and 12 years with proper nutrition, medical care and excellent living conditions.

Avoiding Spyware and E-Card Fraud – How to Safely Send and Receive E-Cards

E-cards (or electronic greeting cards) have become a popular, convenient and inexpensive method of sending greetings to friends, family and business associates for many computer users. Currently, there are thousands of e-card companies. E-card companies are becoming increasingly creative with many including options to add audio, video or animations to your messages. With e-cards increasing in popularity, they are now being heavily to download spyware and perpetuate Internet fraud on unsuspecting users.

A legitimate looking e-card, once clicked on and/or downloaded could actually contain spyware, spam or a computer virus. Some examples of this include: displays of obscene images, pop-up ads, launching of adult websites or spoofing of your email address to send e-cards to others (making them appear as if they came from you).

Below are some signs of a fake e-card:

o Spelling errors, or misspellings of your own name.

o Errors within the message of the card.

o You don’t recognize the card’s sender.

o The sender has a bogus name like: Joe Cool or Secret Admirer.

o It comes from a bizarre looking URL.

Ways to avoid fake e-cards:

o If there is any doubt, don’t open it.

o Never click on links or open attachments from an unknown source.

o Never accept the terms of any End User License Agreement without first reading the terms in fine print.

o Use antivirus software, like StopSign Internet Security and keep it up to date.

o Use an alternative browser, like Mozilla Firefox. Many scams exploit security holes in Internet Explorer.

o Whichever browser you use, make sure you download all new security updates.

o Don’t open any cards with attachments.

There are still many legitimate e-card companies out there and sending e-cards can be fun. Below are a few well-established, reputable e-card companies:

o Blue Mountain-http://www.bluemountain.com

o Hallmark-http://www.hallmark.com

o Egreeting-http://www.egreetings.com

If you have already accidentally opened a suspicious looking e-card, there are several things you can do:

o Place a fraud alert on your credit reports, by calling one of the three main credit reporting agencies, Equifax (1-800-525-6285), Experian (1-888-397-3742) and TransUnion (1-800-680-7289). If you file a report, it helps minimize the damage an online criminal can do.

o Monitor your financial statements closely. Look for small unexplained charges around the $25 or $30 mark.

o File a police report if you suspect your personal information has been stolen.

o Cancel any credit cards or bank accounts you fear may have been compromised.

Like any popular activity pursued on the Internet, e-cards can be a potential source of spyware and/or Internet fraud. However, by following a few common sense tips and being aware of the warning signs, you can help protect yourself from this new trend in computer crime.

2017 Resort Wear Trends

A style of clothing for affluent women who jet set to warm-weather climates post-Christmas, resort wear is in itself a fashion season. Spectacular destinations of the wealthy host champagne sipping water-side activities that requires donning the best of the best. Because if you're someone, you're wearing someone.

So what kind of apparel and swimwear is in store for 2017 resort wear?

The Lingerie Look
Sexy black lace swimwear, cover ups and resort apparel are said to rule the resort wear runway for 2017 collections. Think honeymoon meets yacht party, bringing the bedroom to the beach. Opposite of the daringly sexy black lace look, you may see some white crochet swimsuits and cover ups as well. The trend is sexy peek-a-boo of skin for a demure feminine and more playful look.

Festival Inspired
Festival wear, whether you love it or not, is not going anywhere. With Coachella, Stage Coach and new music festivals popping up all over the world, fashion is looking to cloth the celebrities who love festival music. The resort festival look is elevated with decorative fringe, Grecian goddess inspired straps, pretty palm tree prints, amethyst-colored tie dye that would make you reminiscence of that staple Farrah Fawcett hair, and rich feather prints for a Native American princess look. Festival swimwear pieces will look gorgeous at the pool, and even more so at the next music festival. Never grunge though. Only festival glam is acceptable.

Embellishments
Eye-catching, attention grabbing, glitz and glam. Resort wear and swimwear trends for 2017 are all about the embellishments. Think large jewel details and golden hardware that sparkle in the sun. Solid print bikinis need unique and stunning embellishments such as these to set them apart. The affluent never lead cycling lives and their clothing reflect just that point. These luxury swimwear and apparel pieces are evocative of the finer things in life and meant to be pedigree proof.

Getting Cheeky
Ladies and gentlemen, the cheeky bottom has arrived. The new swimsuit bottom trend will be a hybrid of the traditional bikini bottom and a thong-like look. Potentially scandalous in previous decades, this new bathing suit bottom is a new standard of bikini wear in an era of equal pay and titles. Fashion takes its cues from worldly headlines and events, and this trend is no different. The cheeky bikini bottom provides just enough coverage while simultaneously adding that alluring sex appeal to bring out the highest degree of confidence from every woman.

Cats and Their Personalities

Who says that cats lack personality? Or, as I would rather refer to it, "catonality". Obviously, physiology dictates a particular framework for cats to operate within. Then again, that applies to all species, including homo sapiens. Anyone who has chosen to have cats in their lives, knows that there is something that differentiates each cat from another.

But cats, unlike dogs, do not have expressive faces. This is probably why we think of cats as haughty or mysterious. We wonder what they are thinking as they stare at us.

Actually, cats can not see the detail of our faces. When they look at us our faces appear as a blur to them. What joins their attention is movement. (By the way, this information comes courtesy of public television.)

Dogs, on the other hand, can see our faces and are very good at reading our expressions. This is why we can see their eyebrows dance, or their eyes narrow as they try to figure us out.

Just because cats have neutral expressions, it does not mean that they do not experience a gamut of emotions. We can identify some transitional emotions through their behavior. Let's say that your cat is enjoying the temple-rub you are giving him. You know he likes it because he's purring and when you try to move your hand away, he captures it with both his paws. So, you continue rubbing him. Maybe your hand strains to his tummy, and all of a sudden he gives you a nip. Your cat has transitioned from feelings of contentment to annoyance.

It is the habitual feelings / behaviors of cats that institute their personalities. And in this, cats can be differentiated as each having their own distinct personality.

The unvarying and limited stereotype of the cat is that he is aloof, condescending and independent. Actually, there is a spectrum of feline personalities that run from the very shy to the more aggressive. There are also all the nuanced personalities in between.

I've had many cats over the years. I'm mentioning only two of them in this article. Each of them stands as polar opposites to each other.

"Q"

This female cat had been very badly mistreated as a kitten. She had been found on a beach at night, tied and weighed with rope and rocks. Her siblings had already drowned. The person who rescued her, did so just in time. By the time I adopted her, she was past four months in age. In other words, she was feral and would always remain so.

The irony is that she was an indoor feral cat. She was at the extremely shy cat end of the spectrum. I could only touch her at night, as I lay in my bed and it had to be on her terms. One of my arms had to be under the covers. Then and only then would she solicit rubbing from me. The rest of the world saw her as aloof, even condescending. I knew she was forever tied to her past. I also understood that she needed contact. She was sweet and shy and I loved her.

Robinson

This female cat was on the aggressive (outgoing) end of the spectrum. Robinson was big-boned, with mottled pastel coloring and had the most exquisitely soft fur. Rather like that of a chinchilla. She had been adopted by a friend of mine at less than a month old. Her abandonment did not happen until she was in adulthood; by which time I had taken over the job of caring for her.

She was extraordinarily good-natured and got along with everyone, other cats, dogs and humans. She was not only good-natured, but also very outgoing. The other cats would secret themselves away in their various hiding places. But, when I came home from work, my three dogs would come rushing up to greet me. And so would Robinson. She was right in the thick of things.

Being an assertive cat, Robinson tried to manipulate her environment. Literally. She had neglected dew-claws which made it look like she was wearing baseball mitts on each of her paws. I had the cats' food stored in jars with screw-top lids. Robinson apparently had observed and then experimented with batting one of her paws against the lid in order to unscrew it. Clever girl. So my lesson was to make sure that I secured the lids more tightly.

All in all, each and every one of my cats was special to me in their own way.

Pets – How Do You Choose?

Having a pet can be one of the greatest joys of life; after all, who would not want something that offers unconditional love, companionship and often an unbiased shoulder to cry on?

Before you run out and purchase your new companion though, there are a few things you should take into account.

With such a wide variety of animals that can become pets: from dogs to cats, birds to fish, rabbits to guinea pigs, horses, mice and the more unusual like snakes and spiders the choice is only limited by your ability to meet each animal's requirements .

The first thing you need to do is take your surroundings and lifestyle into account. Depending on where you live and how much time you have to offer your pet will go a long way to deciding what type of pet you should get. If you do not have a lot of room or keep irregular hours sometimes you should look into a smaller animal: fish, mice or others that do not require as much of your time. If you have a large home or backyard then maybe you can handle a dog or cat etc.

You also need to know who is going to be the primary care giver to your animal, while we all love the idea of watching our children grow up with their dogs, we need to remember that for the most part, you as the parent, will be the person most likely in charge of your pet's welfare. Whoever is chosen as the primary carer will need to be willing to offer the time and requirements needed for the chosen pet.

Money is also a major factor when it comes to deciding what type of pet you are willing to introduce into your family. Not only will the initial purchase of the animal probably cost a certain amount depending on what type of animal, whether it's a pure breed or not, along with other initial costs, you will also need to take into account the food, vet bills (such things as vaccinations, worm tablets, flea treatments etc) any toys or other requirements, if it needs certain training or has other specialized equipment or needs, along with any other odd expenses that might arise.

If you're planning on holidays you will also need to take your pet into account. If you can not take it with you, is there somewhere you can send your pet to receive the care it needs while you are away, or do you have a friend or family member that is willing to come to your home to make sure the pet is fed and exercised etc.?

Once you've taken the above factors into consideration and started to narrow down what type of pet you would like, always do some more research: try to find out exactly what type of needs your pet will have (and while this is particularly important if you're deciding on something a little more exotic it's just as necessary even when considering the more usual pet like a dog or cat etc.) make sure you know where you can get any toys or other equipment (aquariums, specialized food etc) in case you need something in an emergency. If you have young children, make sure the chosen pet is suitable for them: if a dog – will it be able to handle a bit of rough and tumble etc?

These are just a few tips to help you on your way to choosing a pet. No matter what animal you decide to get, know that having a pet is a wonderful and often long-time experience that will provide you with many hours of fun and companionship.
